Contents Page Analysis

Analysis Of Contents Page

This contents page was designed for a college, you can tell this because the two student on the front are in their own casual clothes, not business wear like a post sixteen school. Also the students are posing as if they were in a fashion magazine, not a very appealing picture for a college. This contents page hasn’t been designed very well, the editing of the background students was done badly, and its difficult to understand the words. This person choose a difficult/messy font for a school magazine. There's no colour scheme, the word 'Contents' has been put over top off the title,  i presume, but because they've used the wrong font, and placed it over top, it's hard to read what the actual word is. They have put everything in capitals, and underneath the 'page content' it looks messy, and its difficult to understand.

This contents page was designed for Oratory School for boys, one of the first Catholic schools. This contents page has been designed well, it shows the head teacher in front, with some of the students behind him, they are standing with their hands in their pockets. They are all dressed in smart attire, which shows a well structured school. The font and layout is easily readable, and they've kept to minimal amount of colours, which is well designed to make it easily readable.

  1. Think about the link between the contents page and the image that the magazine is trying to project - link to our work on mode of address and representation.
This will help to make your commments more analytical, rather than focusing on how well you think the pages have been designed.

  2. Remember, you should be starting to plan your photography now. Have you mocked up your layouts so you know which photos you are taking and why? See the work we have done on planning photography in class...
Time is ticking - school magazine should be finished by the end of next week!
